Checking in / out
You are welcome to arrive from 2pm on the day you check in. It’s great if you can give us an idea of your arrival time so we can either ensure someone is here to meet you and show you around, or that you have all the information you need to arrive and get set up and settled in independently.
Check-out time on the day of departure is by 12pm.

• Travelling from Plymouth on the A38 towards Liskeard - continue past Liskeard staying on A38 bypass.
• After two miles and at next roundabout signed Twelvewoods, take second left, A390 signposted St Austell.
• At end of next village, East Taphouse, turn left onto B3359 - signposted Looe.
• After approx 2 miles, turn right at our signpost, Botelet.
• Follow small white signs until you reach Botelet (approx 3/4 mile)
When you arrive at Botelet, come in the drive, the camping meadow is through the first gate on your left as you come in the drive (you will see a lamp post on your left, and the wooden gate into the meadow just beside it). If the ground is very wet, we suggest pulling into the area the lane-side of the gate to unload to ensure you don’t get stuck in the field. If the ground is dry, you are welcome to drive in to set up. If you’re unsure about ground conditions, please feel free to ask us.
Having unloaded, if the ground is dry you are welcome to keep your vehicle beside your tent, or you may wish to park in the widened area just before the red telephone box (either on the left or right hand side to ensure there is still access for vehicles to drive right up to the houses) or you are welcome to park in the yard leaving spaces for vehicles to pass if required, thank you.

Drinking water
All of the water in the taps at Botelet comes fresh from our borehole, deep underneath the orchard. It is treated with UV filters, and tested annually. Visitors to Botelet regularly comment on how delicious it is, free from the taste of chemicals. You therefore won’t need to bring bottled water to drink! The water in all of the taps at Botelet comes from the borehole and is good for drinking - that includes taps inside the properties as well as the outside taps. The nearest tap to the camping meadow is attached to the lamp post near the entrance to the camping field.
Loo and shower
The loo and shower are located a short walk from the camping meadow, accessed from outside the houses. From the camping meadow, walk towards the houses and along the pathway between the farmhouse on your left and Manor on your right. On your right are two grey doors - the first door on the right is the camping shower.
Opposite the camping shower, beside the two orange gas canisters, is the loo.
Please note that the lights in both the loo and shower come on and go off automatically, so you don’t need to look for a light switch.
Farmhouse porch: fridge/freezer, washing up & charging
As you walk from the camping meadow towards the farm buildings, the farmhouse is on your left. The farmhouse porch is through the first door on your left. Behind the door you will find a fridge/freezer (shared with our family) with space for you to use. We ask that you kindly remove all of your food/drink items at the end of your stay.
You will find a sink for washing up beside the fridge/freezer, along with a cold water tap.
There is also a plug for charging small electrical items for your use, beside the fridge/freezer.

Fire Safety
To reduce the risk of fire, we ask that you:
Check with us to ensure there are suitable conditions (not too dry) before having a fire or using a portable bbq
If smoking or vaping, do so well away from camping area and if conditions are dry, away from the meadow or any areas in which ash or hot materials could cause a fire. Please ensure cigarette butts are thoroughly extinguished and removed to the bins area.
In the event of a fire:
Exit your tent or van as quickly as possible, without stopping to collect belongings. Meet at the telephone box near the houses.
Call 999 and ask for the fire brigade. Quote postcode PL14 4RD or grid reference 0S201 18.4 60.3

Rubbish, Recycling & Compost
To find the rubbish and recycling area – down the drive from the camping meadow towards the houses, turn right just after the red phone box and walk up through the courtyard keeping the Pighouse (small shed with red doors) on your left, past Richard’s workshop with glass doors on your right, and the bins are located in the area on your right just beyond the workshop.
You will find space to recycle glass bottles, plastic bottles, tin cans, tetra packs, soft plastics, cardboard and paper. Please:
Separate recycling, as appropriate
Rinse and squash plastic bottles, remove any tops
Remove soft plastic tops from plastic trays, then place place soft plastic in separate recycling bin (see labels in recycling area)
Rinse tin cans, glass jars and bottles
Note – tetra packs and cartons are included in the hard plastic recycling bags
For fruit and vegetable waste that has not been cooked, we would be grateful if you could compost it. The compost is located in the orchard near the trampoline – to find it, walk towards the orchard beyond Manor Cottage and the farmhouse. There is a large copper beech tree in front of you, that has a swing on its branches. Behind the copper beech tree is the compost bin.
Any cooked food waste please place in the bins.
Any uncooked food that’s leftover at the end of your stay and you don’t want to take home, please leave in the fridge / place together in the porch beside the sink, and we will pass on to the chickens.

Mobile phone coverage / wifi
Mobile coverage at Botelet varies enormously according to the provider. Most phones receive a signal in the camping meadow. If you urgently need to use wifi, please let us know.
Electric Car Charging
Please let us know if you would like to top up your electric vehicle. We have a dedicated standard 3-pin (13 amp) plug available for use in the yard. Safe charging using this method should be set to a maximum of 10A which equates to 2.3kW. We ask for £1 per hour of charging. This is monitored from in the house but please also make a note of hours used. Payment can be paid by cash or bank transfer.
Wellbeing
We have a treatment room on-site offering therapeutic massage, along with wellbeing workshops. Please let us know if you would like to organise a treatment, advance booking highly recommended.

History of Botelet
The Tamblyns have lived at Botelet Farm for around 150 years. Richard’s father David’s grandfather Thomas and his wife Elizabeth were the first Tamblyns to farm at Botelet, living in Manor Cottage as tenants of Squire Trelawny. In 1884, by the request of the current generation's great grand parents, Squire Trelawny came to inspect the condition of Botelet Manor House. When he nearly fell through the rotten floor, he ordered his men to build the current farmhouse just across the cobbled courtyard. David’s father Cyrus was born in the farmhouse in the year it was built; he lived at Botelet to the tender age of 103! David was also born in the farmhouse in 1924, and Barbara moved to Botelet in 1956 after their marriage. Richard’s sister Julie (1958 - 2004) and Richard are fourth generation, and Tia and Richard’s children are the fifth generation of the family to live at Botelet.
The family focused on farming beef cattle along with sheep up until the 1980s with David specialising in breeding Charolais bulls; he was the first person in Cornwall to do so. The family sold much of their cattle and sheep in the late 1980s with a shifting focus on more diverse farming activities including restoring buildings and historical features, improving the hedgerows and fences, and farming in a very gentle way as part of the Environmental Stewardship Scheme.
