Food shopping

Our closest food shop is the Spar in Pelynt, open until 9pm each evening (10 mins drive) - well stocked for a small shop. Liskeard (15 mins drive) has Morrisons and Lidl supermarkets along with a greengrocer in the main pedestrianised street. Lostwithiel (15 mins drive) has a medium sized Co-op (open until 10pm), a small deli and a newsagents called Penhaligons that stocks some locally grown fruit and veg, especially during spring and summer. There are a number of local farmers markets, details below - please check dates and times as these are subject to change, and most take place bi-weekly or monthly. Waitrose Saltash is a 25 minute drive from Botelet, Waitrose Truro is 45 minutes. Also see food delivery options at the end of this section.

Food deliveries to Botelet - Tredinnick Farm Shop are a good local company as are The Cornish Food Box Co (delivery Thursday to Saturday with min 3 days notice), Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda also deliver to us. Riverford deliver on Thursdays - we can put aside produce boxes for those arriving with us a day or two later.
For supermarket online orders please use our postcode PL14 4RD and quote 'Botelet Farm'. We can sign for and put away fridge/freezer items if a delivery arrives before you do, just let us know the approximate time slot.

Please note - fresh eggs are available to buy from our free roaming chickens here at Botelet. Availability of eggs can be variable so please let us know in advance if you would like to order some, or pop up to the farmhouse during your stay. Cost £1.50 per half dozen.

Pelynt Spar (Pelynt) - well-stocked small village store with post office and cash point.

Lanreath Village Stores (Lanreath) - our closest shop, very small, community run. Closed over lunch, post office in the mornings.

Bellamama Deli (Lostwithiel) - small but well-stocked deli.

Lostwithiel Co-op (Lostwithiel) - Open until 10pm including Sundays. Cash point.

Lars & Margo (Liskeard) - if you love good coffee, pop in to Lars & Margo’s roastery to choose your beans. Friends of Botelet Lars & Margo offer a 10% discount to Botelet guests.

Liddicoats butchers (Lostwithiel) - friendly, helpful, locally sourced produce.

Quayside Fresh (East Looe) - Fresh fruit, veg, deli items including local Cornish produce, and butchery.

Sarah’s Pasty Shop (East Looe) - our favourite pasty shop in Cornwall! Meat and veggie options, gluten free if you call and order ahead.

Pengellys Fishmonger (Looe & Liskeard) - selling fresh fish landed in Looe. Pop in to the shop or phone ahead with your order. Looe is the second largest fishing port in Cornwall and one of the most important in the UK, supplying to a worldwide market.

Philip Warren Butcher at Oughs (Liskeard) - buy in store or online, delivery to Botelet available.

Real Food Garden (outside Bodmin) - fantastic veg grown organically and sold along with other local produce in garden-side self service shop. Highly recommended for fresh, hand-grown veg.

Farmer’s Markets - check dates and times as subject to change: Lostwithiel (4th Saturday of the month, in the Scout Hut), Whitecross (1st Saturday of the month), St Neot (1st Saturday of the month).

Market at Fowey Hall - food, clothes, art and more. Summer pop-up at Fowey Hall Hotel, every second Sunday starting 30th May 2021.

Roadside produce (can’t guarantee availability and may be seasonal, but great to support!) - Ollofruit (near St Neot) for fresh fruit and veg, fresh eggs from West Park Farm on the way to Herodsfoot (PL14 4RA) turn off the B3359 towards Herodsfoot and the stall selling eggs is on your right as you head down the lane.

Cafés

Duchy of Cornwall (near Lostwithiel) - Cakes, coffees and light lunches, amazing views towards Restormel Castle, eat in or out on the terrace. Browse the shop or garden nursery.

Q Street Coffee (Lostwithiel) - coffee, cakes, lunches in the market town of Lostwithiel.

Talland Bay Beach Café (between Looe & Polperro) - Set right on the beach at Talland - a great spot for families at our nearest beach, or walkers on the coastal path. Open Easter to end of October.

Olive & Co (Siblyback Lake, near Liskeard) - Coffee, cake, light lunches with gluten free and vegan options set on the side of a lake with a lovely walk around the perimeter.

Penhale Pantry (Dobwalls, between Botelet & Liskeard) - cafe with a small farm shop selling local deli items, meat and veg.

Liskeard Library (Liskeard) - Breakfast, lunch, coffees & cakes - enjoy alongside a browse of the library, and check out their workshops and events.

Park Café (Lanhydrock) - great access to cycling and walking trails and Lanhydrock National Trust house, there’s a wooden play area beside the café that’s perfect for young kids.

Larssons (Looe) - Coffee bar & creperie, small cosy setting.

Woods Café (Cardinham) - set at the edge of Cardinham woods with walking and cycling trails, next to a small wooden playground.

The Granary, Crocadon Farm (near Saltash) - a beautiful, new offering on a regenerative farm with an incredible morning and lunch-time menu, great coffee, organic wines, milk from their micro dairy herd. Worth a trip from Botelet, or tie in with when you’re heading to or from us from up country.

Brown Sugar (Fowey) - breakfast / brunch / coffee in the heart of Fowey.

Pinky Murphy’s (Fowey) - fun, surf-style cafe: cakes, coffee, hot chocolate and lunches. Pick up some knitting while you’re there, a vibrant friendly setting for kids.

Fowey Hall Hotel (Fowey) - Perfect cream tea venue, very child-friendly grand house with commanding views over the Fowey estuary.

The Dwelling House (Fowey) - Georgian town house in the heart of Fowey, lunch, great cakes, sandwiches and cream teas.

Strong Alfonso’s (near Wadebridge) - great coffee, lovely food and laid-back vibe.

Box and Barber (Newquay) - fantastic coffee, laid-back surfing vibe, great for breakfast and light lunch.

The Old Bakery (Cawsand) - fresh sourdough baked in-house - lunches, coffee & cakes. A welcome pit-stop if you are heading to the villages of Kingsand/Cawsand.

The Hidden Hut (Porthcurnick) - Fantastic spot to eat freshly cooked food al fresco, the hut is just above a beautiful beach on the Roseland peninsula serving coffee, lunches and check out their summer Feast Nights (although these book up very quickly).

Restaurants (advance booking highly recommended)

Asquiths (Lostwithiel) - Great simple, tasty menu celebrating local producers. The interiors are more sparse than some restaurants, we’ve enjoyed dining here as part of a group.

Appletons (Fowey) - fantastic Italian-inspired food in central Fowey.

Fitzroy (Fowey) - great spot in the heart of Fowey, pared-back sharing menus with local and sustainable produce.

North Street Kitchen (Fowey) - relaxed dining, undercover, run by the team at Fitzroy. The freshest fish & seasonal produce with a delicious simple menu. Afternoons, drop-in - no bookings.

Sam’s (Fowey) - Casual, 60’s-style decor in the heart of Fowey with evening buzz. They don’t take bookings so have a drink at the bar while you wait for a table.

Sam’s on the Beach (Polkerris) - Located right on the beach, glass-fronted converted RNLI station with fantastic views. Family friendly, book ahead.

Plough on the Quay (Looe) - right on the harbour-side in East Looe, specialising in fresh fish that’s landed just a few yards away.

Sardine Factory (Looe) - great harour-side position in West Looe, serving breakfasts through to dinner, specialising in fresh fish landed just across the harbour.

Ocean & Earth Thai (Looe) - step inside and it feels as though you’ve arrived in Thailand, an authentic, friendly dining experience with good food.

Couch’s (Polperro) - good food in the heart of the quaint fishing village of Polperro.

Coombeshead Farm (near Launceston) - food from the farm, a fantastic dining experience for lunch or dinner.

Pubs

The Plough in Duloe is our nearest pub geographically, however being approx 4 miles along winding lanes it takes about the same time to get there as to Lostwithiel on the faster roads. Duloe is a small hamlet set along the road, there is a small village shop, however if you are looking for a pub in a town with other amenities we recommend heading to Lostwithiel (15 mins drive), Looe (20 mins drive) or Fowey (25 mins via Bodinnick ferry, or 40 mins drive via Lostwithiel when ferry not running).

The Plough (Duloe) Restaurant in a traditional pub in the small hamlet of Duloe, approx 15 mins along the lanes from Botelet.

The Old Ferry Inn – (Bodinnick, opposite the river from Fowey) Bar food or restaurant overlooking the Fowey estuary frequented by locals and visiting yachtsmen.

Blue Peter (Polperro) - our choice in Polperro, small original locals pub.

The Globe (Lostwithiel) – In the heart of the town, a cosy dining area of pop in for drink before or after Lostwithiel restaurants.

The Royal Oak (Lostwithiel) - Traditional pub food, a local’s bar.

The Salutation (East Looe) - Good pub food in central Looe.

Rod & Line – Great food and atmosphere, good Sunday roast from 5pm. A useful pit-stop on your way into Cornwall or if you’re on a day trip East of Botelet.

The Devonport Inn (Kingsand) - Great food and atmosphere, set right on the sea front in the charming village of Kingsand.

Take Away

We’re yet to find a restaurant that delivers to us, but the places below offer take away so you can order ahead and bring your meal to bring back to Botelet.

Private catering

Angels in the Kitchen - can provide a private chef, or freshly prepared meals made with lots of local ingredients, delivered to your cottage frozen ready to pop in the oven.
